New Models of Distribution – Getting the Music Out

Conference May 22 -24, 2008: Toronto, Canada

In the musical culture of the 21st century, few things seem certain.

Record Companies speak about declining profits due to  digital downloading.

Many listeners and artists welcome the changes as new opportunities.

The New Models of Distribution (May 22nd to May 24th) conference will identify and explore opportunities, innovations, and challenges posed by emerging technologies as they apply to the entire music community including new music.

While no one can claim to know what the future holds with any certainty, our panelists include individuals who are carving new paths, developing new methods and exploring new ideas.

Through these discussions, Soundstreams Canada hopes to help foster a knowledgeable, issue-oriented, vibrant community of new music and music distribution professionals.

The presentations and panels will discuss issues relating to Copyright, Unions, Technology, Broadcasting, Marketing and International Networking.

Schedule available at www.soundstreams.ca

Expanding the Borders: programming new music in an age of diversity.

Canadian New Music Network

FORUM 2008

May 24-25, 2008

The field of “new music” has undergone neormous artistic expansion in the past 5 years. New ideas coming from technology, world music, improvisation, jazz and other media are expanding our understanding of musical creativity, as well as combining with traditional chamber and orchestral music practices. This conference will try to understand these new directions, put them into an historical and artistic context, and help presenters, programmers, and artists find a common language to understand the diversity of current “new music” practices, and to develop programmes which address this artistic expansion and how it can reach a broader public.

Join three noted international new music presenters, and many Canadian new music creators and producers, in this exciting two-day event in Toronto, and hear amazing concerts at the Cool Drummings
and SoundaXis Festivals while you are there!
